Pakistani Jf-17Thunder Vs U.S F-16

JF 17 is recent development as compared to early F-16. When Pakistan stated this program with china their aim was to develop a aircraft as capable of F16 that Pakistan was already operating. JF17 meet those early requirements. This aircraft will replace the older soon to be retired aircrafts like Mirage (i guess 3 and 5) and F7P etc. Those planes are ago old and i guess JF17 is a very good replacement for these specially if Pakistan is assembling these aircraft. That means no reliance on foreign for maintenance and spare parts and with time Pakistan has the option to upgrade it according to its own needs which is not an option with aircraft they buy. Like Inida is buying 37 Rafal from France, they may operate this aircraft but cannot upgrade it. So i guess JF17 is a good path for Pakistan for self reliance. This will allow Pakistan to buy more advanced aircraft in few numbers to enhance its capabilities.

As far as the question is concern i guess the objecitves of this plane is to match early F16 capablities and replce outdated aircrafts like Mirages from Pakistan airforce.

For the JF-17. That project actually started very early in 1980s, Back then, China and Pakistan Air Force was trying to developed a light/low cost jet fighter based on J-7, which is the Chinese version of Mig-21. The initial concept was focus on moving the air intake to side, so there are room for more advanced radar.

Before June 4th, 1989, Grumman also participated this project. The objective is always developing a jet fighter that has 70% of F-16 capability and 50% of cost.
It was not designed to surpass F-16.
